I co-supervised a group of 3rd year students in a field study on flower choice in bees. The course teaches basic skills for scientific fieldwork as well as data analysis and presentation.

Supervision of field-assistants

Over the last 3 years I selected and supervised a total of eight field assistants for my PhD project. I trained my assistants, where necessary in handling, measuring and bleeding birds and in the use of databases, sound analysis and geographic information systems. My assistants have since moved on to engage in a PhD (S. Quinlan), a masters (S. Musgrave) or a first class honours (M. Starling). Two former assistant (M. Suesser, Claire Smith) have now taken up position in conservation organisations in Germany and Britain. Others continue to work in field-projects all over the world (A. Quellmalz, O. Milenkaya).
